I-405 HOV Lane Sepulveda Pass

The I-405 HOV Lane Sepulveda Pass project provides a continuous high-occupancy-lane on I-405 in Los Angeles County between I-10 and US-101. The construction cost of this design-build project project is $750 million. This is a design-build project which includes widening and/or replacement of 23 bridges along the 10-mile stretch of I-405.

EMI conducted site investigation consisting soil borings and CPTs, most of them on traveled way. The site investigation was carried out with two drill crews working nights to complete the work on time. EMI engineers worked daily with structural designers in the Integrated Project Office, and attended weekly coordination meetings with Caltrans. Preliminary and Final Foundation Reports were submitted for each bridge on schedule.

In addition to foundation designs associated with bridge widening and replacement, EMI carried out soil-structure interaction analyses to evaluate adverse effects and mitigation on drainage culverts and on underground water pipelines operated by Metropolitan Water District.
